Description

Atole de Avena is a milk drink thicken with oatmeal and has cinnamon, sugar, and vanilla added in for extra flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups water

½ cup rolled oats

½ cup sweetened condensed milk or ⅓ cup white sugar

1 stick Ceylon Cinnamon stick

½ tablespoon mexican vanilla extract (or ½ teaspoon regular vanilla extract)

2 cups milk

1 can evaporated milk

Instructions

To a pot add the 2 cups of water, sugar, and the cinnamon stick. Cover and simmer for about 10 minutes.

To a blender add the evaporated milk, regular milk, vanilla, and rolled oats.

Add your blended ingredients to the boiling cinnamon water.

Continually stir the atole until it begins to thicken, about 10-15 minutes over medium-low heat. Be careful it doesn’t boil over!

Once thick, remove from the stove and pull out the cinnamon stick.

It is now ready to serve in a heat safe mug.

Enjoy!

Notes

Once you have added the blended oatmeal milk to the water, please do not walk away from your stove! The milk will boil over and make a giant mess! Also, keep stirring! It will burn at the bottom of the pan.

If you like it sweeter add another tablespoon or 2 of sugar or you can add the rest of the sweetened condensed milk.
