Atole de Avena or Oatmeal Atole is a milk drink thicken with oatmeal and has cinnamon, sugar, and vanilla added in for extra flavor.

3 atoles sprinkled with cinnamon and oatmeal in a white cup with white sauce plate underneath
Delicious Atole de Avena sprinkled with cinnamon powder and rolled oats.

    Notes

If you want to give it an extra boost of flavor you could toast the oatmeal in a separate pan before adding it to the blender. It will give the drink a toasted nutty flavor.

Once you have added the blended oatmeal milk to the water, please do not walk away from your stove! The milk will boil over and make a giant mess! Also, keep stirring! It will burn at the bottom of the pan.

If you like it sweeter add another tablespoon or 2 of sugar or you can add the rest of the sweetened condensed milk.

I prefer using rolled oats but quick oats work just fine, too.

    Ingredients

    • Water
    • Rolled or quick oats
    • Sweetened condensed milk
      • or white sugar
    • Ceylon Cinnamon stick
    • Mexican vanilla extract
      • or regular vanilla extract
    • Milk
    • Evaporated milk
