Hey, what’s up! I’m Mirna and I’m the brains behind this operation!
I started this blog sometime in February of 2020. The hubby and I set out to really figure out what we wanted to do with our spare time and see where it could take us. I chose a cooking blog because I’m always in the kitchen!
I also wanted to dedicate a space for all of my favorite recipes, meal ideas, and creations along with all of our culture’s amazing dishes. A place to put all of my family and friend’s traditional recipes. I really wanted to focus on Mexican food specifically, but still bring you all of the food we love and enjoy.

I am first-generation Mexican-American and grew up with the motto “It’s better to have too much food than not enough”. Family gatherings were always a regular thing. If we had a small birthday party we’d still have about 50+ people show up! With at least 10 different (if not more!) dishes to offer our guests. So food was always a big deal, people had to eat!
It wasn’t until I got married that I realized, we might starve! My husband is also first-generation Mexican-American and came from the idea of always having fresh home cooked meals ready to go in the fridge. My cooking expertise went as far as pouring milk into a bowl of cereal or heating up water for some Maruchan. I never learned to cook! Which is crazy because my mom and dad’s food is amazing! They throw down!
Fast forward a bit and here I am today, loving cooking and eating.
What you’ll find on La Saucy Kitchen
I know there are a lot of us out there that love Mexican food but have no idea how to make it. I have asked family and friends how it is they make certain foods/dishes. Stuff I know taste awesome! Food and recipes that originated straight from the motherland and I want to share all of those traditional Mexican recipes with the world! Things like Enchiladas, Fried Crispy Tacos, Empanadas and so much more.
Along with traditional Mexican food, I also want to share other faves I know are amazing and that everyone will enjoy. For example Pasta Aglio e Olio, Burger Buns, and Meatballs just to name a few.
More fun facts about me
I am married to Manuel, the neatest, most organized and cleanest man in the world. He goes by the nickname Mango (I did not make that up, he actually got that nickname sometime in elementary). We have 2 polar opposite kids, Marissa and Manuel Jr. We live in a suburb not too far from Chicago, IL
Currently, we have no pets. Mostly because I can barely take care of 2 kids. Ha!
Things you might not know about me (or maybe you do!)
- I really enjoy gardening. Potting flowers, watching them grow, but I really hate weeds. Swear they are the most annoying thing in the world.
- I’m a kitchen gadget hoarder. Yep, drives Manuel crazy.
- Naps are life, I’ll take one any chance I get.
- I love podcasts. True Crime, Conspiracy Theories, Supernatural, News Podcasts and anything with a good interview.
- Books. Love reading. I don’t have time for it much these days but when I do I love a good book or comic.
- Musica norteña con sax is everything! I jam hard to Maquinaria Norteña, Pescadores, La Fiera de Ojinaga, just to name a few!
Thank you for stopping by and getting to know me a little more and please go check the recipes on the blog. Hope you love ’em!
